Stop & Shop will expand the availability of its SCAN IT! mobile shopping app, which sends personalized, location-based offers to customers' smartphones as they scan, tally and bag their groceries, to 42 more stores by the end of 2011.

JCPenney sold its 15 JCPenney Outlet Stores to SB Capital Group for an undisclosed amount. The stores will be rebranded as JC's 5 Star Outlet and JCPenney will continue to supply the outlet stores with overstocks and end-of-season merchandise.

Walgreens launched Refill Reminder Text Alerts, a new service that sends a text message to patients when a prescription is due for refill. Customers can then complete orders by replying with "refill."

Amazon is expanding its test of shipment lockers to New York City. The online retailer is testing the buy online/pick up in store lockers at Rite Aid, Gristedes, and D'Agostino locations throughout the Big Apple.
