Magento Ecommerce Websites For Retailers and Wholesalers

Magento is the world's fastest growing ecommerce platform. So far more than 60,000 merchants have used it to ring up more than $26 Billion in sales.

Because of this, it's very well tested and, thus, very stable. That's why we recommend it for our clients.

You don't even have to sell online with Magento if you don't want to. You can use Magento to categorize your products and showcase them on your website. When you're ready to start selling online, you can turn on Magento's shopping cart functionality.

What do you get with a Magento site? It's very flexible, so the possibilities are endless, but we cover the basics below.

Front page (Like a sign for your store)

The front page is where your customers land when they type in www.yourstore.com. You want to grab their attention immediately so they don't click away.

We have several tools to help you do that:

  • Slide Show - you have a customizable slide show that flips around and does a good job of attracting your customers' attention. You can change the slides whenever you want and you can also add links to the slide, so they can click on the slide for more information.
  • Banner Ads - you can also have banner ads on the front page. These act like display ads in a newspaper. You can also change these whenever you want. After all, you want to keep your front page fresh.
  • Featured Products - you can have a section of Featured Products as well if you wish. Here you can advertise your specials.

Look at the screenshot to your right to see a demo front page with these three elements.

Manage Categories and Products

You can manage your store's categories and products right in Magento. You start by setting up categories and sub-categories. It's very easy to add new categories in Magento. You simply fill out a form. Then you can move them around in Magento by dragging and dropping them.

Once you've set up some categories, you can start adding products. You can set up multiple types of products in Magento. Two of the most common are simple products and configurable products.

Configurable products are products with attributes, such as color and size. If you're a clothing or shoe store, you will use these types of products all the time. If you look at the screenshot to your right, you will see a configurable product. You have to choose a color and a size before you can buy this blazer.

Once you've set up a product, you can add pictures and information so that your customers can learn enough to call you, stop by your store, or even buy the product online.

Accept Payments Online

If you want to start selling online, it's best to sign up for a free Paypal Business Account. Paypal is built into Magento, and you don't have to buy an SSL certificate, which locks down your website, to collect money because Paypal handles this.

When you're ready to take things to the next level, you can sign up for an online merchant account. You might even be able to use your current merchant account. It just depends on whether they support Magento or not. A lot of online merchant accounts have Magento extensions available. Some of them are free, while others cost money.
